Located just a two hour drive from Barcelona, Besalú is ideal for finding tranquility and cultural richness in the rural countryside, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Adjacent to the Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park, the area also provides easy access to diverse landscapes and volcanic terrain, making it a perfect backdrop for a restorative retreat.
We stay at the charming Can Jan, a family run B&B with 10 bedrooms, where you can make use of multiple practice spaces, enjoy the serene pool, rejuvenate in the soothing sauna, and walk a network of forest paths amidst tranquil countryside. During this itinerary, we include three cultural excursions that we feel highlight the unique must-dos of the region.
On your first full day, our knowledgeable local guides will take you into the nearby historic town of Besalú, where you’ll wander through its medieval streets and marvel at landmarks such as the ancient stone bridge and the impressive Jewish quarter.
Next, we’ll hike through the stunning Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park, renowned for its unique volcanic landscapes and lush greenery. In this diverse terrain you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of ancient craters, dense forests, and rolling hills.
We will also spend a day visiting the cultural and historical city of Girona, where we will include an expertly guided tour of the old city, lunch at a delicious local restaurant and either more free time to explore Girona OR the option to add on a visit to the Salvador Dali Museum in nearby Figueres.
